The Mersey Gateway Crossing - Halton Borough and the Merseyside region are heavily dependant on the existing Silver Jubilee (Runcorn-Widnes) Bridge. As the bridge gets older and traffic levels increase, congestion will get worse, wear and tear on the bridge will increase and essential maintenance will become more and more disruptive. Worsening congestion will discourage development and endanger regeneration of the area. This site describes the steps which are being taken to build a new bigger bridge between Runcorn and Widnes.
